Senior Softball - Summer Newsletter

Kia ora koutou

The Nelson Softball Association extends a warm welcome to our new members who will be joining us for the Summer League and welcomes back all those involved in the Spring League. Please see below updates to help with organisation for the up and coming season.

Core Business:

The Nelson Softball Board would like to acknowledge and thank the time and effort that some individuals, teams and Clubs have put in so far this season to help get softball off to a positive start. There has been lots happening across the grades and Clubs and we certainly could not do what we do without your input and support, so thank you!

Grounds and Facilities:

Pavilion Building: As of 1st January 2022, the Entire Pavilion Building (Includes all Upstairs and Downstairs Areas) will be operating under the New Zealand COVID-19 Protection Framework  “MY VACCINE PASS” guidelines.

Sport and Recreation at Orange Level: On our website you will find up to date information on the levels and how we are operating under the “NO Vaccine Pass” guidelines (at the softball park). Please help us to keep everyone safe by being familiar with the guidelines. QRCodes are also displayed at each diamond, notice board, toilets and pavilion building.

Competition and Participation:

Thankyou for completing player registrations online through the sporty.co.nz website for the Spring League. Players are encouraged to update details now if applicable for the Spring League. Each Club /Team is to present a team list with full names again as part of the registration process by the 11th February. This can be added to as registrations are completed throughout the season. You will find these forms on the website.

Coaches, Officials & Volunteers:

Umpires: Unfortunately a new date has not been scheduled yet for an umpires clinic. Once this is confirmed we will let you know.

Coaching: Nelson Softball would like to highlight the resources that are available on the Softball New Zealand website. This is the best place to get up to date information; https://www.softball.org.nz/Development/Coaching.html It is also hoped that we can coordinate some coach specific sessions - more information to come on this.

High Performance:

Seniors: This season has seen the Nelson Men attend the Fast 45 and Jefferies Cup in Christchurch. With a new structure in place for the NFC, they will also get away to this tournament in February which is fantastic. A special thanks to Coach Lawrence for supporting the Nelson Men’s team here as we grow and develop high performance softball in the region.

Nelson Softball acknowledges that the women’s high performance game is an area that needs more support to grow. Therefore we want your help to develop a programme that will see  growth and development in this area. If you are keen to be a part of this project over the winter, please let us know.

Age Grade Tournaments: Due to COVID all National Age Grade tournaments were cancelled and a new format was put in place to ensure that the U17’s and U19’s could still play in their respective age grade tournaments. These age groups were combined in the South Island and will see a Club Open Tournament held in Christchurch. Nelson United and Saints Rams will be working together to compete at this regional tournament in January.

In the U15 Grade grade, the focus has been changed to suit the age and stage appropriate to this level and will see a Club Open Tournament held in January. Nelson United will have an U15 Boys and Girls team attend this tournament in Ashburton.

Nelson Softball wishes all these players all the best with their up and coming tournaments.

Events and Media:

This is an area we are still developing and growing this year, through the Facebook page and website. If you have some positive softball stories to share we would love to hear from you so we can do a bit of a feature. Otherwise please feel free to message the Team on facebook messenger with your game day results and photos to share.
